Where do I start?

If you just found a pair of vintage Levi's or vintage denim, it may be overwhelming. There are so many nuanced details that determines a garment's particular value, so instead of describing every possible permutation, its much more practical to teach you what are some of the major deciders for if something is valuable or not for all vintage workwear/workwear brands: a good rule of thumb. However, please bear in mind that this is the most basic bare bones guide, and there are many many exceptions, so if you want to insure you aren't passing on something very special, feel free to contact us.

Does it have any washing instructions? examine the pockets and garment inside out.
Care tags were mandated in July of 1972, so if your garment doesn't have any, its quite old!

Is it a brand you heard of?
Often the brands that survived to this day are more desirable as they are more recognizable and well know. However, there are many brands that are were defunct decades ago that are significant. So if they are brands like Levi's, Lee, Wrangler, Foremost, or Montgomery ward, there is a much higher chance that they will be valuable.

Is it a good size?
The wearability of the garment plays a major roll in its value, with some exceptions. Is it a 26 waist or a 34? Even if these garments are far too valuable to wear, the idea of the size is critical for its value. Good sizes are worth more than bad size.

If they are jeans, do they have exposed selvedge ?
Prior to the mid-1960s, denim manufacturers used shuttle looms to fabricate denim, and these short width looms resulted in a finished edge on the fabric. Clothing manufactures would often use this selvedge edge on the outseam of jeans or front button placket on jackets. It is a good way to determine whether or not they are valuable.

How's the condition?
Just with other niches such as coins and baseball cards, condition is critical. Deadstock is worth more than worn with many holes.
